I remember the day I received the call that a musician and friend of the Bud and Roach Show had been diagnosed with cancer. It was a shock that left me feeling helpless, as he had just signed a major deal that would have placed him on tour across America. He was transferred from New Orleans back home to New York City to receive cancer treatment. I visited him in the hospital and was astounded by what I saw. The face that was always filled with so much life had withered away, and I saw the suffering that he was enduring. I knew I had to do something to help. I asked him if we could use the Bud and Roach Show to raise funds for his cancer treatment, and he agreed. I got to work campaigning for his cause and hosted a fundraiser at one of our favorite spots, Pine Box Rock Shop. Having a relationship with the bar owners made it easy to set up, and I was touched by the outpouring of love and support from family, fans, and even strangers who came to show their support. It was a beautiful moment of unity, and it reminded me of the power of friendship and the importance of helping one another in times of need. His strength and resilience inspired me, and it was an honor to stand by his side during his battle with cancer. It’s moments like these that make me grateful for the platform I’ve been given and the opportunity to make a positive impact on those around me. As I took the stage in those final moments of the night, I opted to perform one of his records in tribute, an original and the song that he initially submitted to Bud and Roach Show for a feature. It was my ode to him, and proof positive that his music was deserving of the world’s attention.
