As we focused our efforts on rebuilding Purfek Storm Group, I found myself using the knowledge I had obtained over years of freelancing for small businesses to assist with the online monetization of Ultimate Hair World, a brand under the umbrella owned by Storm and his wife, Natasha. With a decent-sized storefront, they offered hair products to locals in New Jersey and wanted to expand their operation. After obtaining a transparent PNG of the logo, I began creating marketing materials to support the launch of their new website. I combed through the WordPress plugins, creating a one-of-a-kind build custom to the needs of this particular brand. As I worked online, sipping vodka, I felt increasingly validated with every step forward. “Wow! This looks amazing!” they exclaimed upon seeing my work. I smiled and looked over my shoulder, nodding my head in agreement. “I know. I did it.” We laughed at the showcasing of my growing ego, and I refocused my vision back to the screen. We began making visits to the shop, using the space to host small events for marketing and promotional purposes. In the grand scheme of my career, I understood that this work wouldn’t get me on the red carpet. But knowing the position I was in, I did everything in my power to be of assistance, keeping a smile on my face and reminding myself that the journey is just as important as the destination.
